This is a research into securing wireless Asynchronous Transfer Mode (wireless ATM) networks. It will look at the challenge in providing such a secure wireless ATM network.
ATM is the emerging as switching and multiplexing technique being adopted by B-ISDN offering advantage in flexible and high bandwidth allocation and accommodation various QoS. As the demand for B-ISDN is further driven by the require of the user to be able to receive the service like WWW,e-mail anywhere in the world then the extension of service from a wired ATM to wireless one become inevitable. Along with the various services, come an increased threat of obtaining the services with illegitimate means. To counter the threats, security features must be added.
Like any wireless system, wireless ATM networks transmit data over the wireless air interface. It will be subjected to potential listening in, also imposes new constraints on security compared to the wired one.
